Opening the heart and listening to it's wisdom has become a very dear practice to me on my journey. At the very first utter of the words we can become frightened to open our heart for the fear of it being broken, but if we see things from a new light every experience that has 'broken the heart' somehow seems to shine a light on the heart, assisting in a deeper love or appreciation for life and the experiences we have. Granted we learn the lessons our heart is attempting to teach at the time.
The heart's wisdom is so very strong and powerful and when we take the time to listen we can really grow and blossom to our greatest version. If you have difficulties opening your heart just be mindful and observe where this 'fear' of opening the heart is coming from. Traumatic experiences can leave us shaken up but if we choose to be brave and breathe into our heart with time we become open again.
